The shape and features of contemporary sofas are where they stand apart from other models. Many modern sofas feature minimalist lines and basic cushion shapes. Some styles are sleek and sit on thin legs. These styles often have thin cushions to accompany the couch, if any. With this simple style, contrasting throw pillows pull together a room colour scheme more than pillows that match the furniture fabric.
Other styles offer more unique shapes. Some couches are less
structured than classic sofas. These can be large, overstuffed sofas that
almost resemble bean bag chairs. There are no legs on this design, and the arms
and back of the sofa are smoothly fused together to form a continuous line.
Some modern sofas have a more “Zen” appeal and sit directly
on the floor without legs. These styles often feature seating that is wider
than classic sofas. Some can be as wide as a twin bed. There are also sectional
styles that feature a chaise longue end at one or both ends.
Modern designs can have a more classic feel, too. Many of
these sofas have such clean and simple lines that they easily transition into a
room’s existing decor, and can be built upon with unique throw pillows and
blankets to blend make the sofa a relaxing focal point of the room.
